.: By Subway/Underground
Currently there are two underground lines including 48
subway stations and 38 km length of railway. The two roman
underground lines operate between 5:30 am and 23:30 pm
except Saturday night when all the subway stations in
Rome close at 0:30 am in the morning. Between 7 and 9
am and 5 to 7 pm during the weeks rush hour the subway
leaves every 3 to 4 minutes. When it is less busy every
8 to 10 minutes a subway leaves the station. None the
less in high tourist season, which in Rome is at most
times throughout the year, the underground cars are hopelessly
overcrowded and it is very hard to breath fresh air.
Subway line A
At the moment the city of Rome conducts a project of extensive modernization and improvements in the older
section of the Subway line A. The crossing underground and railway station Termini where the two main subway
lines A and B meet is modernized as well.
A new underground shopping center at Termini has been established in the context of modernization.
Subway line B
A new project for the extension of subway
line B conneting the underground station Bologna with Conca d’Oro
in the Montesacro area has began towards the end of 2005.
